Netflix's ‘Bridgerton’ halts Season 2 production

Not even a week after its first case of COVID-19 on set, the production for the hit Netflix period drama Bridgerton is once again postponing its production after another case was confirmed. 

The first shutdown was reported to have lasted for 24 hours on Thursday after one of its crew members tested positive for COVID-19. They then resumed on Frida. However, not long after, another member of the team tested positive. It wasn’t disclosed if it was a crew member or one of the cast. Currently, those who were tested are in isolation. 

For now, filming for Bridgerton Season 2 is indefinitely postponed. Netflix is working with Shondaland producers to create a timetable for production to continue.

The second season is being shot in the United Kingdom where the COVID-19 Delta variant is rampant. The country has the highest daily number of new cases in the world with almost 52,000 cases last Friday. The last week recorded a total of 261,832 new cases.

Bridgerton is based on Julia Quinn’s novels set in the Regency Era in London. The series is created by Chris Van Dunsen and is produced by Shonda Rhimes. 

Bridgerton is Netflix’s most popular and streamed show with 82 million viewers. Last week, Bridgerton also bagged 12 Primetime Emmy nominations which includes best drama series, and René-Jean Page—who played the iconic Duke of Hastings Simon Bassett—for best lead actor.

The show was also renewed for a third and fourth season.
