Apple iOS 17.1 is out. Here are the latest features

Published Oct 26, 2023 10:46 am

Apple has just released an update for its iPhone's operating system, which includes nifty features like continued AirDrop transfer over the internet, more StandBy mode settings, and Apple Music favorites, as well as bug fixes.

With the iOS 17.1 update, one may still send and receive content to and from other Apple devices, even outside of the AirDrop range. The transfer continues via WiFi or mobile data if the devices move apart.

Apple is also introducing new options for StandBy mode, a feature that allows users to turn their iPhone into a bedside clock, a photo frame, and a display for viewing widgets, among others. The update adds a toggle whether automatically turning off, turning off after 20 seconds, or never turning off StandBy mode for iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

As for Apple Music, favorites were expanded to include songs, albums, and playlists. One may also filter to display their favorites in the library.

Apple said there’s also a new cover art collection whose design changes colors to reflect the music in one’s playlist.

Song suggestions now also appear at the bottom of every playlist to make it easy to add music that matches its vibe.

Improvements and bug fixes include:

  • Option to choose a specific album to use with Photo Shuffle on the Lock Screen
  • Home key support for Matter locks
  • Improved reliability of Screen Time settings syncing across devices
  • Fixes an issue that may cause the Significant Location privacy setting to reset when transferring an Apple Watch or pairing it for the first time
  • Resolves an issue where the names of incoming callers may not appear when you are on another call
  • Addresses an issue where custom and purchased ringtones may not appear as options for your text tone
  • Fixes an issue that may cause the keyboard to be less responsive
  • Crash detection optimizations (all iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 models)
  • Fixes an issue that may cause display image persistence

To get the iOS 17.1 update, iPhone users may go to Settings > General > Software Update.
