Visit to the PH, live online event in the works for Hyun Bin, Son Ye Jin

Expect to see more of Hyun Bin and Son Ye-Jin in the near future—and, “when everything normalizes,” you may even see them in person.

In an online press conference by Smart Communications on Monday, Feb. 22, Jane Basas, the telecom company’s SVP and Head of Consumer Wireless Business, said that Hyun Bin and Son Ye-Jin—stars of the hit South Korean drama Crash Landing On You—“owe us a visit to the Philippines.

This is after the two South Korean stars, who are also a couple in real life, appeared together in a television commercial for the telecom company that was launched on Feb. 14. The two already did campaigns for the company last year; Hyun Bin in June 2020, and Son Ye-Jin in  August 2020. Basas said a campaign that features both Hyun Bin and Son Ye-Jin was not part of their original plan.

“As soon as we launched Son Ye-Jin in August, there was again a clamor to bring the two of them together. It’s really us answering the requests of our clients, of our subscribers. But putting them together in one campaign was never really part of the plan,” she said.

Basas added: “The question as to whether we will see them again in the future in another campaign really depends on their schedules. They're very busy. But what I can promise is that they still owe us a visit to the Philippines. So I’m hoping everything normalizes because as a fan, I’d love to see them here.”

The telecom company said it is working on a live online event—though whether they will do the event together or separately is something that still has to be fixed.

A second commercial featuring Hyun Bin and Son Ye-Jin is also in the pipeline.

This isn’t the first time Smart promised a Philippine visit for Hyun Bin and Son Ye-Jin. During a press conference last year, the company said their South Korean stars’ contracts do include a visit to the country. Of course, a trip to the Philippines may not be possible at the moment due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “I can assure you that Son Ye-Jin really wants to come here. She’s been here and she would like to come back,” Basas said last year.
