Avril Lavigne collabs with the legendary ‘Sk8r Boi’ Tony Hawk for her first ever TikTok video

Published Jun 22, 2021 7:56 pm

For her first ever post on TikTok, “Pop Rock Queen” Avril Lavigne tapped the ultimate “Sk8r Boi” Tony Hawk for an awesome collab that early 2000s kids have been waiting for.

Lavigne’s TikTok debut has stirred nostalgia among those who are old enough to remember the heyday of this early 2000s punk rock, power pop anthem.

And what better way for the Canadian singer-songwriter to hop in the TikTok bandwagon than to star in a video, lip-syncing to one of her hits, Sk8r Boi, which was first released in 2002. (Yes, that’s almost two decades ago. Feeling old yet?)

In the video, 36-year-old Lavigne, who looks no older than 25, is wearing her signature look: a tank top, necktie, shorts and skater shoes. She lip-syncs to the song while on top of a mini-halfpipe with a view of the ocean.

As the chorus comes, it cuts to pro skateboarder Hawk, 53, wearing Lavigne’s tie and skates his way on the halfpipe.

As of this writing, the video has over 11 million views, less than 24 hours after the eight-time Grammy nominee posted it.

Lavigne also announced the collaboration with Hawk on Instagram, posting a photo of her with the skateboard legend. “I just posted my first @tiktok with the legendary @tonyhawk… go check it out!”

Hawk playfully commented on the post, changing the lyrics of the song, “I was a skater man, she said ‘see you later man’.”

Early this month, Lavigne posted a video of her trying out her skater girl chops on the same halfpipe. In the background, her boyfriend, American singer and songwriter Mod Sun, is heard telling her “be careful,” and then she wiped out. “I’m okay,” Lavigne immediately assures.

Sk8r Boi is the second track in Lavigne’s widely successful album “Let Go,” which carries the singer’s banner single and hit song Complicated.

Lavigne has performed in the country a few times, the first one being in 2005. She was set to perform again on Philippine shores in 2020 but was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Recently, it was announced by Wilbros Live that “Avril Lavigne Live in Manila” tour has been moved to May 2, 2022.
