Studio Ghibli Film Festival is coming to Manila this November—and you can enter for free

Studio Ghibli fans, you're in for a treat this November.

Studio Ghibli, The Japan Foundation Manila, and the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation, together with Shangri-La Plaza and Fully Booked, are hosting a Studio Ghibli Weekend mini film festival in Manila.

Six iconic Studio Ghibli films will be screened in celebration of Hayao Miyazaki, a 2024 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee. They are Spirited Away, (2001), My Neighbor Totoro (1988), Howl's Moving Castle (2004), Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea (2008), Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (1984), and Castle in the Sky (1986).

The festival will be on Nov. 16 and 17 at the Shangri-La Plaza Red Carpet Cinema.

Admission is free, but you will still need to secure tickets here on a first-come first-served basis starting Nov. 4. More details will be announced soon.

Studio Ghibli was established in 1985 by the visionary directors Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki in Japan.

Over the years, the animation studio has produced a captivating collection of twenty-two feature-length films, including iconic titles like Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle.

Recently, their latest film, The Boy and the Heron, has garnered critical acclaim and prestigious awards, including a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and an Academy Award.

Last August, Miyazaki became one of the five recipients of this year's Ramon Magsaysay Awards. The award-giving body recognized Miyazaki with the honor for "partnerships for the goals" on Saturday, Aug. 31.
