Jessy Mendiola reveals breakup with Luis Manzano before their engagement

The saga of Luis Manzano and Jessy Mendiola’s controversial engagement continues.

The latest update: Jessy revealed that she and Luis had actually split months before they got engaged in October.

This also prompted Jessy’s falling out with the person behind Radiant Jewelry—from whom Luis had originally gotten their engagement ring—who happens to be her good friend.

In a YouTube video on Tuesday, Dec. 15, an emotional Jessy explained that Luis had the diamond engagement ring made from Radiant Jewelry in September 2019.

However, Luis initially didn’t push through with his planned proposal. Jessy said this was because she and Luis had broken up in May of this year.

“May 2020, Luis and I went through something to the point na naghiwalay kami,” she said.

Jessy added, “And this person from Radiant Lux Jewelry was a good friend of mine. I trusted her. We both trusted her, Luis and I. We had good faith in her. That’s why siguro, Luis chose her to make my ring kasi friend ko siya. Well, she was my friend,”

The actress said her friend from Radiant Jewelry knew about the breakup. “Kumbaga, nung time na nahihirapan ako, itong tao na ito, nandun siya for me.”

Jessy and Luis eventually patched things up.

When they had gotten back together, Luis revealed to Jessy that her friend from Radiant Jewelry “kept badgering Luis to get the ring even when hindi pa kami ayos ni Luis.” Jessy noted that the ring was already fully paid at this point.

Nalaman ko about the ring way before Luis even got the chance to propose to me. Sana hayaan niyo na lang kami maging masaya without bashing us or without spreading hate.

She shared: ”Siyempre ako naman, I am not trying to defend Luis... But naiintindihan ko, kung ako yung lalaki and di kami okay ng girlfriend ko, di ko kukunin yung ring because I have to respect my emotions too. Kasi nandun kami sa time na di kami sure kung magkakabalikan kami or hindi.”

Jessy also said that her friend showed her the engagement ring during the time she and Luis still hadn’t gotten back together.

“She opened the box in front of me knowing na hindi kami ayos ni Luis. She let me wear the ring,” she said.

“Can you imagine yung feeling ng babae na hindi ayos ng boyfriend tapos pinasuot niya sa akin yung ring? Na naisip mo what could have been? Na kung okay kami ni Luis, magpo-propose kaya siya? Kailangan ba umabot sa ganitong point na ibang tao yung magsasabi sa akin about the ring?”

After wearing the ring, Jessy said she told her friend that she didn’t want anything to do with the ring.

"Kumbaga, para sa akin, tapos na, ayoko na pahabain pa. Kung di man kami magkabalikan ni Luis, okay na,” Jessy added. "But, hindi ko alam yung intention kung bakit kailangan pa sabihin sa akin na meron palang ring.”

In short: Jessy said she found out “about the ring way before Luis had the chance to propose to me.”

"Nawala sa amin yung feeling na yun. Yung excitement na luluhod yung lalaki sa harap mo, kinakabahan, di alam kung ano sasabihin sa iyo. Na tatanungin ka niya ng, 'Will you marry me?' Nawala sa amin yun,” she said.

Luis decided to get the ring from Radiant Jewelry after they had gotten back together.

“Para tapos na,” she said.

Jessy further explained: ”So finally, nung nakuha ni Luis yung ring, it took him months to propose because I had to heal from what happened. I had to heal from finding out about the ring even before my love ever got to propose to me.”

In order to “erase” the “negative vibes” attached to the engagement ring, Jessy decided to have it reset and redesigned by Manila Diamond Studio, which she endorses.

"Sana hayaan niyo na lang kami maging masaya without bashing us or without spreading hate. E, sino ba naman ako para humingi ng favor sa mga bashers or sa mga nega? I just want everybody to be happy including this person who ruined the proposal,” Jessy said.
