TV5 seeks return of classic shows 'Iskul Bukol,' 'Wow Mali'
TV5 is looking to bring back classic shows like Wow Mali and Iskul Bukol.
During the TVJ and DABARKADS Media Day held on Tuesday, June 20, the "legit" Dabarkads and the Mediaquest Holdings Inc. executives shared more about their partnership and future plans, including how the collaboration between TV5 and TVJ started.
“Kami sa TV5, we’ve actually been forging a lot of strategic relationships with other content companies, one of them actually is APT [Entertainment Inc.] of Direk Mike Tuviera. We don’t have any direct relationship with TVJ, pero marami po kaming mga shows before, shows ngayon, shows na pinaplano na actually somehow involve them,” said Jane Jimenez-Basas, president and CEO of Mediaquest Holdings and Cignal TV Inc.
She furthered that some of these shows are TVJ’s classic sitcom Iskul Bukol and Joey de Leon’s comedy gag show Wow Mali.
“We’re actually re-launching Wow Mali very soon. Nilalambing namin sila for Iskul Bukol, so meron pong pag-uusap na ganon,” she revealed.
“Pero in the context of the shared purchase agreement today, ang pinaka importanteng araw po was actually May 31, and this is when we received [a] formal letter if open kami for discussion,” she added.
When asked by MJ about what other shows are in the lineup, Jimenez-Basas didn’t bare more details but revealed that there are a lot of projects that they plan to work on with TVJ Productions.
“Marami. There has been a lot of I guess informal discussions with Tito Sen. Kasi ang daming pwedeng gawin, 'no? Ang gusto lang namin mag focus doon sa show na ila-launch very soon, but let’s look forward to more in the next coming months,” she said.
Dabarkads also answered how they intend to deliver more quality content for their audiences.
“Maliban sa noontime show, I think marami kaming pwedeng gawin, like pwede naming ibalik yung SingGaling, isa rin yun sa longest show ng TV5,” said Allan K. While Joey de Leon quipped that he plans to pitch a cooking show dubbed So Good, Mga Kapatid.
Meanwhile, Tito Sotto stressed that they plan to focus on improving show portions that their audiences love.
“To answer the question directly, few days ago pinag-uusapan na namin nina Jenny [‘yung] enhancement nung mga portions na paborito nila. Ie-enhance pa, we will not rely on what we had before, and then there will be new portions,” said Tito Sotto, citing the “Pinoy Henyo” portion as an example.
After the controversial and emotional departure from TAPE Inc., TVJ, along with the other Dabarkads, announced that TV5 will be the new home of their noontime show.
Meanwhile, Eat Bulaga! continues to air on GMA7 under TAPE Inc. with new hosts Paolo Contis, Mavy and Cassie Legaspi, Betong Sumaya, Buboy Villar, and Alexa Miro.
