WATCH: Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette and Ghostface reunite in trailer for fifth ‘Scream’ film
What's your favorite scary movie? Paramount Pictures has just released the official trailer for Scream 2022 just in time for the spooky Halloween season.
In case you missed it, Scream is coming back for the fifth time, 25 years after it first made its debut. The sequel/reboot in the self-referential slasher saga is set to be released on Jan. 14, 2022.
Scream 5, technically titled just Scream (like the original 1996 American slasher film) brings back original stars Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, Courtney Cox as Gale Weathers and David Arquette as Dewey Riley 10 years after the last film.
Along with the Legacy actors, Scream will also feature a whole slew of newcomers as potential new victims (or new incarnations) for the iconic masked villain, Ghostface.
The new cast members include Jenna Ortega (The Babysitter: Killer Queen), Jack Quaid (The Boys), Dylan Minette (Goosebumps), Melissa Barrera (In the Heights), Mason Gooding (Love, Victor), Kyle Gallner (Outsiders), Jasmin Savoy Brown (The Leftovers), and Sonia Ammar.
The trailer teases that most of the movie’s younger characters are linked to victims from the first four movies in the franchise, which will make them Ghostface’s targets this time around.
Based on the trailer, it looks like Ghostface's methods have gotten an upgrade in keeping up with technology and modern times.
In a major throwback to the original film (and its sequels), the trailer opens with a landline phone ringing while Jenna Ortega's Tara Carpenter receives text messages on a smartphone from the killer, and her home security and electronic locks being swiftly hacked.
Scream 5 brings back the series’ original writer Kevin Williamson as a producer, along with James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not).
This also marks the first film in the franchise not directed by horror-legend Wes Craven, who passed away in 2015.
The new film is directed by the team of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, whose last project together was 2019’s horror-comedy Ready or Not.

Scream is set to be released exclusively in theaters on Jan. 14, 2022.
