Lucasfilm Games brand revived as official home of all Star Wars gaming titles

Published Jan 12, 2021 3:23 am

Lucasfilm is resurrecting the Lucasfilm Games brand as the new home for all its video game properties, including future Star Wars titles and beyond.

The gaming branch of Lucasfilm, best known for creating and producing the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, was originally known as Lucasfilm Games from 1982 to 1990, before it switched its branding to LucasArts. Disney, which acquired Lucasfilm Ltd. including the Star Wars franchise in 2012, announced that it’ll revert the branding back to Lucasfilm Games, amid a renewed interest in gaming.

To mark the new era in gaming, Lucasfilm Games launched social media channels on Twitter (@LucasfilmGames) and Facebook (@LucasfilmGames), which will deliver breaking news and more directly to fans.

“New Year, new look! Welcome to the new and improved Twitter page for news and information from Lucasfilm Games.” the account Tweeted on Tuesday (Jan. 12) linking to an official announcment on Star Wars.com.

According to the statement, the newly minted Lucasfilm Games logo will appear in all upcoming Lucasfilm Games, which “encompasses the company’s rich catalog of video games and its eye toward the future."

As reported by Slash Gear, the legacy of Lucasfilm Games goes back to 1982 when George Lucas founded the studio. It was originally established for internally developed games and was eventually folded into LucasArts in the ’90s, with Electronic Arts eventually acquiring the rights to publish Star Wars video games.

The Lucasfilm Games banner is now being revived for Lucasfilm’s future gaming titles as they enter “a new and unprecedented phase of creativity… developed in collaboration with the finest studios across the industry.”

The brand shared a sizzle reel celebrating the history of games from Lucasfilm, featuring games such as Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars: Squadrons, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Minecraft Star Wars, Star Wars: Battlefront II, Fortnite x Star Wars, Star Wars Pinball, Star Wars Jedi Night: Jedi Academy and even Star Wars: Journey to Batuu - SIMS 4.
