Andrew Garfield on ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ rumors: ‘F—king hilarious’

Andrew Garfield has broken his silence on rumors that he'll swing back into action in the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home film.

During an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Garfield, who appeared in two Spider-Man films prior to Tom Holland's iteration of the web-slinger, shut down rumors that he'll reprise his role as Peter Parker in the highly-anticipated third Spider-Man movie.

"It's so crazy… dude, it's f—king hilarious to me because it's like I do have this Twitter account and I see how often Spider-Man is trending and it's like people freaking out about a thing and I'm just like... I wish I could just be able to speak to everyone and just say, 'I recommend that you chill,'" Garfield said.

"Listen, I can't speak for anything else but for myself. They might be doing something but I ain't got a call," he added.

The actor then went on and compared the situation to games like Mafia and Werewolf where a player needs to convince other players that he or she is not the werewolf or mafia in the group.

"It's like you're convincing everyone that you're not in the mafia. I feel like I'm in the game of f—cking werewolf or mafia where I'm like I'm not the werewolf. I promise you I'm not the werewolf," he said.

To set the record straight, host Josh Horowitz then asked Garfield to give an unequivocal yes or no answer, to which the actor responded, "I feel, like… haven't I just said that? I did not get a call… I would have gotten a call by now, that's all I'm saying."

"I don't want to rule anything out," Garfield added. "Maybe they want to call me. Maybe they're going to call me and say, 'Hey, people want this'... maybe they are doing like a market research thing."

Prior to this, Holland previously said that Garfield and original web-slinger Tobey Maguire will not be reprising their respective roles for the third Spider-Man film.

“No, no, they will not be appearing in this film,” Holland said. “Unless they have hidden the most massive piece of information from me, which I think is too big of a secret for them to keep from me. But as of yet, no. It’ll be a continuation of the Spider-Man movies that we’ve been making.”

Maguire played as the web-crawler in the first three Spider-Man films in 2002, 2004, and 2007 while Garfield stepped in as Peter Parker in 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man and 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Rumors that Maguire and Garfield would be returning in the next Marvel superhero movie made headlines late last year following confirmation that Alfred Molina and Jamie Foxx are set to reprise their respective roles as Doctor Octopus and Electro.

The rumors also claimed that Kirsten Dunst and Emma Stone are also involved in the upcoming project, along with Charlie Cox's Daredevil.

The cast of Spider-Man: No Way Home includes Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Tony Revolori, and Jacob Batalon. Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme will also be joining John Watt's superhero movie to serve as a new mentor to Holland’s Peter Parker in lieu of Tony Stark.

The film is slated for release on Dec. 17, 2021.
