Jason Momoa of Aquaman fame is playing another character from DC Comics: the antihero Lobo.

Momoa is portraying the character in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (2026), the second movie in the DC Universe (DCU) after Superman (2025).

On Dec. 31, the 45-year-old actor on Instagram shared an excerpt from a past interview where he expressed interest in the character.

“I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,'” he quoted himself as saying. "I mean, listen. If they call and ask me to play him, it's a f*ck yeah.”

"I haven't received that call, so I don't want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I'm there," he added.

And what Momoa manifested came true, with him writing in the caption of his post, "They called."

James Gunn, the creator of the DC Universe and co-chairman and chief executive officer of DC Studios—which produces media based on characters from the comic book—shared an artwork of Lobo in a post an hour after Momoa's post.

Momoa then reshared Gunn's post in his Instagram Story.

Gunn also shared on Instagram Story Momoa's post about the call, with the caption, "Welcome to the DCU, Jason Momoa," followed by the hashtags #Lobo and #Supergirl.

Momoa also shared fan art depicting him as Lobo.

Lobo, a bounty hunter hailing from the planet Czarnia, is known for his violent and irreverent personality.

He possesses superhuman strength and regenerative abilities, making him a formidable opponent.

The plot for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is still under wraps.

Milly Alcock of House of the Dragon fame will play the titular role following a long search.

Also joining the cast are Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem of the Yellow Hill and Eve Ridley as ally Ruthye Mary Knolle.

Momoa's last project for DC was Aquaman (2018) and its sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023).

Aside from Aquaman, he's known for his role as Khal Drogo in the television series Game of Thrones.

Momoa's upcoming projects include A Minecraft Movie, Animal Friends, Fast X: Part 2, Chief of War, and The Wrecking Crew.
