A legend returns in the Xbox Games Showcase.
It's the Xbox Games Showcase for July
It's Xbox's turn to showcase its launch lineup for the Xbox Series X, and we got a glimpse of just a few of the titles from some of the developers under the Xbox Game Studios banner.
Most of the videos featured were CGI-rendered which was a bit of a disappointment, but there was enough actual gameplay footage from some to feed hype for the next generation console.
The best announcement for the entire event, however, came right at the beginning part when Xbox Head Phil Spencer announced that all games featured will be available for Xbox Game Pass subscribers.
"We want you to be able to experience as many great games as possible. So, Game Pass members, you can play every game you see today... These games will look and play best on Xbox Series X," he said.
Game Pass is considered the "Netflix" of gaming. The service allows users access to a games catalog from a wide range of publishers for a single monthly subscription price.
Halo Infinite
The showcase was streamed over YouTube and Twitch recently, kicking off with the much-expected surprise gameplay demo of Halo Infinite. The over 8-minute gameplay video showed Master Chief showing off some classic Halo moves (that shield regenaration, anyone?) and a grappling hook mechanic.
The game comes out on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC this holiday 2020.
State of Decay 3
A dark forest, ominous music, a lone woman crafting wood arrows by a campfire. Of course, things go very, very wrong soon after. State of Decay 3 looks to serve up some zombie deer terrors soon.
Forza Motorsport
Doing away with the number convention, Forza Motorsport showed off its trailer with footage captured in-engine. Check out the floor and other surface reflections courtesy of ray tracing.
The game comes out for Xbox Series X and PC with no release date announced.
Everwild
A brand new IP, Everwild is a fantasy game set in a "natural land and magical world." You play a mysterious Eternal protecting a bunch of animals. No other information has been given, but the amazing animation-inspired graphics makes this something to watch out for from developer Rare.
Tell Me Why
Carrying shades of Life is Strange, developer Dontnod Entertainment's Tell Me Why is about a brother and sister reliving a childhood trauma connected to their mother.
The narrative drama's first chapter drops on August 27.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
It's already considered an "old" game, but the difference being, this upcoming version was optimized especially for the Xbox Series X. Expect 120Hz framerates, low input latency, and full 4K HDR.
The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgon
The first DLC for The Outer Worlds will be available for Xbox One and PC on September 9.
Grounded
You have got to love a game that doesn't take itself too seriously. As shown in the trailer below, Grounded looks to be a somewhat homage to the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids movie franchise.
This tiny survival adventure game launches on Xbox One on July 28.
Avowed
Not much is known about this first-person RPG from Obsidian Entertainment as of yet. We do know it's set in the fantasy world of Eora.
As Dusk Falls
Another narrative drama, this time from developer INT./NIGHT, which features a truly unique graphic aesthetic that's close to the one employed in movies such as A Scanner Darkly and Waking Life.
The epic story spans 30 years in the life of two families whose lives become entangled in a robbery-gone-wrong.
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II
The first game was short but awesome. The sequel, Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, looks to surpass everything that came before it in terms of graphics and story.
Psychonauts 2
Raz takes a journey inside a brain that was randomly lying around. And yeah, that's Jack Black being all epic as usual on the game's soundtrack.
Destiny 2: Beyond Light
This new expansion launches on November 10 this year. No other details for the multiplayer shooter is available.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2
The acclaimed PC shooter finally arrives on the Xbox Series X. It's "one of the biggest open-worlds to date, filled with radiation, mutants," and other unspeakable terrors.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide
This 4-player co-op game takes place in the hive city of Tertium.
Tetris Effect: Connected
Part-action puzzle, part-zen experience, Tetris Effect: Connected is the original game with all-new co-op and competitive online and local multiplayer modes.
The expansion will be made available in Summer 2021 as a free update to all existing versions of the game.
The Gunk
Unravel the mysteries of a forgotten planet with The Gunk. It's looking like an action puzzle-platformer from the creators of Steamworld.
The Medium
Play across two-worlds rendering simultaneously on your screen. This psychological horror game also features a "dual" sountrack by Akira Yamaoka and Arkadiusz Reikowski.
Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis
Sega's online action RPG will be coming to the Xbox Series X in 2021.
CrossfireX
CrossfireX promises to be "an immersive and cinematic single player experience." Multiple action gameplay mechanics such as the "flying squirrel" suits and slo-mo effects look pretty interesting.
And lastly, a game that people have speculated on but were not exactly expecting on this particular showcase...
Fable
Other than a short teaser trailer, nothing else is known about this release. Is it a remake? A remaster? Or is it a full sequel to the original? Even in its description, "a new beginning" can mean a lot of things. We'll just have to play the waiting game on this one.
What's important is, Fable will be available on Game Pass (like all of the games featured here) on day one.
