Talk about using your influence for the greater good, BTS on September 23 gave a powerful speech about the impact of the coronavirus pandemic at the 75th UN General Assembly.

Followed by 30.5 million on Instagram, the multi-awarded K-pop group spoke as part of their partnership with UNICEF and the Love Myself campaign. They were invited by the Group of Friends of Solidarity for Global Health Security to lead the very personal speech.

All members of the group—RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook—shared a bit about their personal struggles and feelings of loneliness fitting for these uncertain times. Each member also gave messages of hope for their fans and online viewers.

“Yesterday, I was singing and dancing with fans around the world, and now my world had shrunk into a room. And then, my friends took my hand. We comforted each other and talked about what we could do together," Park Jimin opened up.

Kim Taehyung followed, "I was frustrated and depressed, but I took notes, wrote songs, and thought about who I was. I thought, ‘If I give up here, I’m not the star of my life.”

Jungkook added, "If our voices can give strength to people, then that’s what we want and that’s what we’ll keep on doing."

The leader of the group Kim Nam Joon or RM ended the remarks to talk more about resiliency and hope. "Now more than ever, we must try to remember who we are and face who we are. We must try to love ourselves and imagine the future. BTS will be there with you. Our tomorrow may be dark, painful, difficult, and we might stumble or fall down."

"But the stars shine brightest when the night is darkest. And if the stars are hidden, we'll let moonlight guide us. If even the moon is dark, let our faces be the light that helps us find our way. Let's reimagine our world. We're huddled together tired, but let's dream again. Life goes on. Let's live on."

This isn't the first time BTS has delivered a speech at the UN General Assembly. Two years ago, the group also addressed the UN urging young people to "speak yourself," which became viral.

In November 2017, the group partnered with UNICEF for an anti-violence campaign called “Love Myself," and has raised approximately $1.4 million for UNICEF in a year.
