Tyson Venegas finishes at Top 10 of 'American Idol' Season 21
Filipino-Canadian Tyson Venegas is exiting the stage of American Idol Season 21 after ending his journey in the Top 10 spot.
According to the results posted by the reality singing competition on Twitter, Venegas failed to secure a spot among the Top 8 contestants who will advance to the next round, which includes Warren Peay, Colin Stough, We Ani, Haven Madison, Oliver Steele, Iam Tongi, Zachariah Smith, and Megan Danielle.
Venegas made it this far thanks to his performance of veteran singer Stevie Wonder's song For Once in My Life, earning him enough points to enter the Top 10.
Even though he is now saying goodbye to his goal of becoming the next American Idol, the 17-year-old half-Pinoy is still thankful for all the experience and lessons that he gathered from the competition, which was judged by Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan.
"Thank you so much everyone for all your love Your support means a lot. My American Idol journey has come to an end, but what an honor it has been. Not gonna lie, I’m gonna miss my new fam," Venegas wrote on his Instagram post.
The show's casting producer, Audrey Pine Wright, left an encouraging message to the young singer in the comments section, highlighting that she is elated at having included him in the show.
"I'm beaming with pride! You are an incredible talent! I'm honored to have casted you this season and can't wait to see where your career takes you," she wrote.
Others said, "Just the beginning Tyson! Congratulations on this incredible accomplishment. Your mad talent and humble enthusiasm is contagious. Can’t wait to see where it all takes you next."
Throughout his journey, Venegas showcased his love for classic pop songs with performances of timeless tracks such as Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me by Elton John and Don't Stop Me Now by Queen. The audition song that earned him the first platinum ticket in the current season is Billy Joel’s New York State of Mind.
Venegas is not new to participating in big singing competitions as he was previously a part of The Voice Teens Philippines in 2020.
He has two original songs that he composed, titled What If and Never Give Up, which are available for streaming on Spotify. In a past interview, he shared that he plans to continue making original music and dreams of making a song that will endow him with a Grammy award.
