Netflix's latest reveals comes after it hared photos of the main characters last June 18, which shows Gorden Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, and Ian Ousley as Sokka.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is a live-action reimagining of the award-winning and beloved Nickelodeon animated series that ran from 2005 to 2008. Albert Kim serves as showrunner, executive producer, and writer.

According to its synopsis, the upcoming series depicts how the four nations—Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, and Air Nomads—once lived in harmony, with the Avatar keeping peace between them. Everything changes when the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out the Air Nomads, the first step taken by the Firebenders toward conquering the world. With the current incarnation of the Avatar yet to emerge, the world has lost hope.

Hope springs forth when Aang (Gordon Cormier), a young Air Nomad — and the last of his kind — reawakens to take his rightful place as the next Avatar. Alongside his newfound friends Sokka (Ian Ousley) and Katara (Kiawentiio), siblings and members of the Southern Water Tribe, Aang embarks on an action-packed quest to save the world and fight back against the fearsome onslaught of Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim).

But with Crown Prince Zuko (Dallas James Liu) determined to capture them, it won’t be an easy task for the group. They’ll need the help of the many allies and colorful characters they meet along the way.

A live-action film titled The Last Airbender attempted to retell the story back in 2010. However, many fans of the anime series slammed the movie version for "whitewashing" or casting white actors in the hero roles.

Avatar: The Last Airbender premieres on Netflix in 2024.
