Beauty queen Wynwyn Marquez tops marine reservist training

Beauty queen Winwyn Marquez finished her marine reservist training not only with flying colors but more so, as the top of her class.

Winwyn, who was crowned the first Reina Hispanoamericana in 2017, completed the rigorous training as Batch Dakila Class President, top 1 Class 01-2020, and top 1 of physical Fitness training. She has earned the rank of a master sergeant.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, November 22, the 28-year-old actress said that she enlisted in the Philippine Naval Reserve Command as early as February this year. Determined to serve the country beyond the pageant stage, Winwyn chose to carry on with the drills despite the onslaught of the pandemic.

"During these difficult times, attending this reservist training... has become one of my motivations to keep on moving forward and to continue to serve others despite the limitations and uncertainties," Wynwyn wrote.

The training, she said, consisted of classroom lectures, physical exercises, and a "3-day field training exercise in Cavite as the culmination of our training course."

Winwyn Marquez couldn't be any happier to serve the Philippines with both her high heels and marine badge.

It may have been difficult, but the beauty queen went all-in, still with grace and confidence, for her fellow Filipino women.

She continued, "I am also honored to be one of the small number of women to join this training, as it matches my passion to encourage and empower our Filipino women.  The training was no easy feat, as I was expected to experience hardship just like everyone with no special treatment or privileges. I was seen not as 'Winwyn the actress and beauty queen’ but as Cadet Marquez—a fellow Filipina and sister to my batch mates."

Through this achievement, the beauty queen hopes to inspire others to reach for their dreams and "make an impact" in the country.

Winwyn wrote, "Thanks to the support of my batch, family, and other like-minded people around me, I have completed the course with realizations I never knew I would learn and also a new set of classmates-turned-family. Through this breakthrough, I will be able to exemplify that anyone, regardless of the field of expertise, gender, or age, can join and be someone they thought they can never be as long as they have the heart to serve."

She added, "I am sharing this personal moment with you all hoping it can be a motivation and inspiration not only to Filipino women but to all Filipinos to not be afraid of their weaknesses and to pursue their passions in life."

Prior to the graduation ceremony held that day, Wynwyn uploaded a photo of herself as the newly crowned Reina Hispanoamericana in 2017.

Part of her caption read, "I wore a green gown when I became Miss Philippines & represented our country Internationally. Tomorrow, I finally get to wear something really special to me in the same color and it will also be for our country."

Before being crowned Reina Hispanoamericana, Winwyn competed in Binibining Pilipinas 2015, where she finished among the Top 15 and awarded Best National Costume and Miss Talent.
