Say Happy 37th Birthday to the Famicom!
The Nintendo Family Computer celebrates 37 years of 8-bit awesomness
Put on your nostalgia goggles as we commemorate the 37th anniversary of the Nintendo Family Computer.
Also known as the Famicom in Asia, Nintendo's legendary 8-bit home video game console debuted in Japan retail stores on July 15, 1983. Right off the bat it included two controllers and some already popular launch titles (previously released in arcades): Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., and Popeye. The console further cemented its place in history with the release of Super Mario Bros. two years later.
In 2016, Nintendo released "mini" versions of the Famicom and it's North American baby brother, the Nintendo Entertainment System or NES, to high demand between casual players and video game collectors worldwide. Each mini-console was packed with several old-school 8-bit games such as Pac-Man, Excitebike, Balloon Fight, Ice Climber, Galaga, and of course, Donkey Kong, and Super Mario Bros.
