Live action She-Ra series in early development at Amazon
Amazon Studios is reportedly developing a live-action series of She-Ra, the long lost-twin sister of He-Man.
The character of Princess Adora was introduced to extend the appeal of the Masters of the Universe setting to young girls. A series of toys under her name was first produced by Mattel in 1984 and she got her own Filmation series, She-Ra: Princess of Power, in 1985.
The Amazon project is the first time that She-Ra will be brought to life in live-action.
Variety reports that the project is still in early development. DreamWorks Animation, which recently produced the 2018 Netflix animated series reboot She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, will serve as an executive producer on the live-action series.
The upcoming live-action version of She-Ra will be a “new, standalone story and will not be connected to the animated show” according to the report.
The original She-Ra: Princess of Power animated series premiered in 1985 and was cancelled in 1986, after two seasons and 93 episodes.
In the original series, She-Ra was kidnapped as a baby by Hordak of the Evil Horde and taken to the planet Etheria, where she was mind-controlled into serving as a Force Captain of the Horde. He-Man eventually helped her break the mind control and gave her the Sword of Protection, which allows her to transform into She-Ra and grants her incredible power.
The rebooted animated series, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, which boasted of a more diverse cast and complex relationships between characters, premiered on Netflix on November 2018 and concluded on May 2020 after five seasons.
