'Joker' sequel with Joaquin Phoenix is in the works, confirms director Todd Phillips
A Joker sequel has been confirmed!
On Wednesday, June 8, director Todd Phillips posted a photo of the script cover for the upcoming movie, which has the working title Joker: Folie a Deux. He also shared a photo of Joaquin Phoenix, who plays Joker, reading the script.
"Folie a deux" is a term for mental disorders affecting two or more individuals, usually members of a close family.
Details about the sequel are still scarce but the date May 18, 2022 is also seen in the photo, suggesting the script was recently finalized. Maybe we'll get to see characters close to the Clown Prince of Crime in the upcoming flick like Batman and Harley Quinn.
Phillips' Joker was released in 2019 as a standalone film following the journey of Arthur Fleck, a lonely party clown in Gotham City who was shunned by society. The film received critical acclaim and earned 11 Oscar nominations. It won two Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Actor for Phoenix.
Screenwriter Scott Silver, known for films like 8 Mile, is co-writing the Joker sequel with Phillips.
