'Stranger Things' animated version is coming to Netflix

Matt and Ross Duffer, also known as the Duffer Brothers, have announced a new animated version of their hit television series Stranger Things.

In a statement released on April 11, the pair of director siblings teased viewers that their "Saturday morning cartoons are getting turned upside down," in reference to the show. 

"We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling," the Duffers said.

The upcoming untitled TV show does not have any details, for now, other than it will be aired on Netflix.

The Duffer Brothers are executive producing the show, under their Upside Down Pictures production banner. Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen via 21 Laps, as well as Eric Robles via Flying Bark Productions are working alongside them.

Although scripts and artwork for the project are already being developed, none of these have been revealed yet.

“We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with–the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you!" the Duffers said.

Meanwhile, they are asking fans to get tickets to the new play Stranger Things: The First Shadow as they await updates on the animated TV show and the main series' upcoming fifth and final season.

Stranger Things is a science fiction-drama show set in the 1980s. It has been nominated for both Emmy and Golden Globe Awards, winning a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series in 2017.
