'Freaky Friday' sequel in the works with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan expected to return
A sequel to the 2003 film Freaky Friday starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan is currently in development.
Jamie and Lindsay have since shared reports of their personal (and possibly professional) reunion on their respective social media accounts.
"Reunited and it feels so good," the onscreen mother-daughter duo posted.
Although they are in talks to reprise their roles as the body-swapping Colemans, Lindsay clarified that nothing is final yet.
"Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be. We would only make something that people would absolutely adore," Lindsay said in their interview with The New York Times.
Elyse Hollander will reportedly write the upcoming film's screenplay.
It was actually Jamie who played a pivotal role in the potential sequel.
“As I went around the world with Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday... Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made,'" Jamie said in their interview.
The Academy Award-winning actress of Everything, Everywhere, All At Once earlier this year manifested that a Freaky Friday sequel will happen: "It’s going to happen. Without saying there’s anything officially happening, I’m looking at you in this moment and saying, ‘Of course it’s going to happen.’ It’s going to happen."
The 2003 film earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy).
Freaky Friday is about a mother who has a bad relationship with her teenage daughter, but they are forced to work together after they magically switch bodies.
