Gal Gadot to play Evil Queen in Disney’s live-action ‘Snow White’
Gal Gadot is reportedly in final negotiations to portray the Evil Queen in Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Snow White.
As reported by Deadline, Gadot will be stepping up to the Magic Mirror opposite West Side Story’s Rachel Zegler, who was cast as the classic Disney princess in June.
Fresh from Hollywood’s big premiere for Red Notice, the role will give fans a chance to see the Wonder Woman star’s wicked side as an iconic villain.
The original Snow White and the Seven Dwarves cartoon released in 1937 was Disney’s first ever animated feature and became a massive success for the studio.
Based on the Brothers Grimm fairytale, the timeless story follows an orphaned princess living with her Evil Queen stepmother who attempts to poison her after becoming jealous of her beauty. With the help of seven dwarfs, Snow White escapes the queen and eventually lives happily ever after.
According to the Deadline report, insiders say that "the live-action film will expand upon the story and music from the original."
Marc Webb, who directed The Amazing Spider-Man films starring Andrew Garfield and 500 Days of Summer, is set to direct the untitled Snow White adaptation. Marc Platt serves as a producer alongside Benj Pasek and and Justin Paul, the songwriting duo behind La La Land, The Greatest Showman and Dear Evan Hansen, who are writing new music for the film.
News of a live-action Snow White has been in the works at Disney since 2016. Other live-action remakes currently in development include The Little Mermaid starring Halle Bailey, Pinocchio with Tom Hanks and Lilo and Stitch directed by Jon M. Chu.
Production on the live-action Snow White is expected to begin sometime in 2022.
