Filipino stand-up comedian Red Ollero’s comedy special is now on Netflix—in a historic first for a homegrown talent to have such a show on the streaming giant.

On Red Ollero: Mabuhay Is A Lie, Ollero talks about topics like fast food, awkward sex, and the trouble with being not-quite-famous.

An earlier teaser showed him poking fun at foreigners for using “mabuhay” as a greeting often despite Filipinos not commonly using it.

"Tuwang-tuwa tayo sa mga nagsasabi ng ‘mabuhay’ dahil ba ginago natin sila?” he said. “Kasi hindi naman totoo 'yung 'mabuhay' eh, hindi naman 'yun greeting natin.”

He then asked the audience if they ever used “mabuhay” in their lives even once and if they did, he said he would retire already.

He also jokingly pretended to greet a friend with it.

Ollero worked with directors Ryan Puno of the comedy studio SOLID OK and Marius Talampas of Ang Pangarap Kong Holdap and Dagitab fame. He appeared in Ang Pangarap Kong Holdap.

Red Ollero: Mabuhay Is A Lie was recorded in August 2023 at Teatrino Promenade in San Juan during three sold-out shows.

Ollero had roles in comedy movies like Marupok AF, Fruitcake, and, most recently, I Am Not Big Bird, the comeback movie of Enrique Gil.

Netflix’s stand-up specials featured the likes of Jo Koy, Dave Chappelle, Ricky Gervais, Kevin Hart, Trevor Noah, Wanda Sykes, John Mulaney, Chris Tucker, Ronny Chieng, and Gabriel Iglesias.
