'The Sound of Music' international tour is coming to Manila in March
It's music to the ears of The Sound of Music fans: Broadway International Group has announced that their multi-year international tour of the much-loved musical will be coming to Manila in March.
The show was first launched in Singapore back in November and will continue with stops in the Philippines, India, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan from March 7 to 26 next year, with other countries that are yet to be revealed.
The tickets are now on sale and available online at ticketworld.com.ph and TicketWorld outlets. Depending on the seat, the prices range from P1,587 to P6,348.
Simone Genatt and Marc Routh, co-founders and producers of Broadway International Group, said in a joint statement that it is a "great privilege" for them to bring the cherished Rodgers & Hammerstein musical to Manila during the global recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Our goal is to celebrate the spirit of musicals and sing Do-Re-Mi with audiences everywhere! We are thrilled to light the Broadway musical torch once again in Manila, and to perform this fantastic production in the Philippines," they said.
The story puts audiences in the shoes of Maria, a free-spirited and fun-loving governess who is tasked to teach the seven children of Captain von Trapp, who had been raising them alone through strict disciplinary measures following the death of his wife.
However, their gloomy and tense household is filled with color once again as Maria reintroduces the children to music.
Since its first run in 1959, the stage play has bagged five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and a GRAMMY Award for Best Show Album. Its film adaptation starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer has meanwhile won five Oscar Awards, including Best Picture.
Directed by Jack O'Brien and featuring music by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, the upcoming production stars Jill Christine-Wiley as Maria Rainer, Trevor Martin as Captain von Trapp, with Daniel Fullerton as Rolf, Lauren Kidwell as Mother Abbess, Joshua La Force as Max, Lauren O’Brien as Liesl, and Annie Sherman as Elsa.
According to GMG Productions, the musical will be held at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Circuit Makati.
