The Philippines ranks second in most number of international beauty pageant crowns

When it comes to beauty tilts, the Philippines, without a doubt, is always in the picture. Alongside the United States, it ranked second in a study conducted recently by a German research firm on different countries with the most international pageant crowns.
Statista specifically looked into the pageantry’s “Big Four”: Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International, and Miss Earth. Venezuela came in first with 23 titles, followed by the PH and the US with 15 crowns each.
The company, which focuses on market and consumer data, noted that Miss Universe (organized by the US) and Miss World (organized by the UK) are the longest-running beauty contests that fall under the prestigious group. “Over the years—the pageants have been running since 1952 and 1951—both countries have favored their homegrown beauty queens to some extent,” the research read.
From Miss U alone, the US bagged eight titles while Venezuela and the Philippines “made it to the top of the ranking with none—or just a little—help from a friendly organizing committee.” In the Philippines, four people have brought home the Miss Universe crown: Gloria Diaz (1969), Margarita Moran (1973), Pia Wurtzbach (2015), and Catriona Gray (2018).
The study additionally emphasized that while the Miss Earth tilt is held in the Philippines, it only launched in 2001, which may show that such factor has not had a significant influence in the country’s ranking in its results. Miss Earth’s Filipina titleholders include Karla Henry (2008), Jamie Herrell (2014), Angelia Ong (2015), and Karen Ibasco (2017).
The Philippines has the most number of winners in Miss International namely Gemma Cruz (1964), Aurora Pijuan (1970), Melanie Marquez (1979), Lara Quigaman (2005), Bea Santiago (2013), and Kylie Verzosa (2016), while only one Filipina has been crowned Miss World: Megan Young in 2013.
