The annual Game Awards 2023 just concluded, highlighting achievements in the global gaming industry as well as exciting video games that will be out in the coming years.

Baldur’s Gate 3, which is set in the universe of the popular tabletop role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, won the coveted Game of the Year award. It also bagged Best Performance for actor Neil Newbon, Best Community Support, Best Multiplayer, and Players’ Voice.

The Best Esports Athlete went to Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok of multiplayer online battle arena game League of Legends. Faker’s team T1 recently won this year’s League of Legends World Championship, the game’s largest annual tournament.

The Worlds was also named the Best Esports Event at this year’s Game Awards.

Aside from putting the spotlight on the people and games that stood out in the industry in 2023, the recently concluded event also showcased teasers of upcoming offerings that gamers can enjoy in the next few years. Here are the most exciting games and updates that were announced at the affair.

SEGA reboots classic games

Japanese video game giant SEGA, which rose to popularity in the ‘80s, is rebooting its classic titles.

Its reveal trailer features two individuals whose gaming gets halted due to a power outage, until an arcade machine lights up and shows revamped versions of Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and Crazy Taxi.

SEGA said the new games are already under development and will be released over the coming years.

Marvel’s Blade

Platform: Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC

Based on the popular comic, Blade follows Eric Brooks, a part-human, part-vampire Daywalker who’s torn between the warm society of the living and the rushing power of the undead.

It’s in the single player and third person mode, set in the heart of Paris.

Jurassic Park: Survival

Platform: PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S

Based on the popular science fiction franchise, Jurassic Park: Survival is a single-player action adventure.

Players will assume the role of Dr. Maya Joshi, who gets stranded on Isla Nubar a day after the events of the original Jurassic Park. They will explore the island teeming with the reptilian creatures.

The game was meant to be released in the early aughts during the height of the movies’ popularity but was canceled.

Final Fantasy XVI DLC

Platform: PlayStation 5

The 16th main installment of the action role-playing game is getting two DLCs (downloadable content), subtitled Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide.

Echoes of the Fallen is now available, while The Rising Tide will be released in spring next year (March to June).

The game is set in the twin continents of Valisthea, which is divided between six nations. A phenomenon called the Blight brings tension among the nations.

It features open environments and a combat system featuring physical and magical attacks.

The DLCs are sold separately but would also come in a discounted bundle.

God of War Ragnarok free DLC

Platform: PlayStation 5

The action-adventure game based on Norse mythology is getting free downloadable content on Dec. 12.

It’s set after the game’s final battle, with the main character, Kratos, and companion, Mimir, exploring monster-filled dungeons.

Fortnite’s Rocket Racing mode

Platform: PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Mac

The battle royale game is launching its Rocket Racing mode on Dec. 8 PST (Dec. 9 Manila time) and gave players a glimpse of what to expect.

Rocket Racing takes inspiration from cart racer games and will feature courses and obstacles as players drift, fly, and boost with friends through an ever-growing selection of tracks.

Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO

Platform: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC

The popular anime is getting a new video game adaptation.

While the game was announced last March, it just revealed its official title and announcement trailer showing the main characters Son Goku and Vegeta on a battle. It eventually leads to them to transform into their Super Saiyan Blue modes.

Other characters like Freiza, Broly, Piccolo, Krillin, Android 18, and Cell can also be seen unleashing their strength in the teaser.
