Disney Plus reboots ‘Flight of the Navigator’ with Bryce Dallas Howard set to direct
A reimagining of the 1986 sci-fi live action film Flight of the Navigator is reportedly in the works.
Actress Bryce Dallas Howard is attached to direct and produce the Disney Studios reboot of the classic children's film with a female lead.
The original Flight of the Navigator, was directed by Randal Kleiser and written by Mark H. Baker, Michael Burton and Matt MacManus.
The family sci-fi adventure film, which starred Joey Cramer, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Veronica Cartwright, follows David Freedman, an ordinary 12-year old boy, who goes on an extraordinary adventure aboard a futuristic spacecraft.
The boy ends up traveling eight years into the future from 1978 to 1986 and spends the film trying to reunite with his family, but gets entangled with the police and NASA along the way.
Known for her on-screen work in the Jurassic World trilogy, as well as her roles in M. Night Shyamalan films like The Village and Lady in the Water, Howard also has a number of directing credits under her belt, with short films screened at the Sundance, Toronto and Cannes film festivals.
The project reteams Howard with Disney Plus as a director, having already helmed two episodes of Star Wars: The Mandalorian (Chapter 4 “The Sanctuary” and Chapter 11 “The Heiress”), and an episode of the upcoming spinoff series, The Book of Boba Fett.
The upcoming Flight of the Navigator reboot marks Howard’s feature directorial debut and is slated to premiere exclusively on Disney Plus.
