From heartfelt messages to impressive setlist: Here are the highlights of BTS’ ‘Permission to Dance’ online concert

Published Oct 25, 2021 7:49 pm

Permission to fangirl, please? Because BTS’ “Permission to Dance: On Stage” might be one of our favorite online concerts of the year.

The online concert was one for the history books as BTS combined spectacular performances and heartfelt tributes to ARMYs in the two-and-a-half-hour show last Oct. 24. It was an exciting and emotional experience for fans to witness the group making fans feel like they’re performing right in front of them.

It was sad to see the empty stadium but seeing the “ARMY BOMB” lightsticks feels like a warm hug from RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook themselves.

Here are some of the highlights of BTS’ “Permission to Dance: On Stage” to cure your post-concert depression.

For Taehyung, the show must go on

Hours before the concert, it was announced that V (or Taehyung) will mostly be seated due to calf muscle pain. It felt incomplete to watch BTS’ iconic dance formations, but he made sure to make his presence felt among fans. Sing your heart out, Taehyung!

In the words of Jeon Jungkook: “So what?”

So What is an energetic bop about being “young, wild, and free” and there’s no one who radiates it more than Jungkook himself. We can’t help but cheer along Jungkook saying “so what” to the people “who don’t like me.” Who actually hates Jungkook?

BTS pretending to be ARMYs

It’s heartbreaking that we wouldn’t see BTS perform at a concert for now, but seeing the members acting like ARMYs felt like a warm hug from the boys.

BTS driving us crazy

It’s not a BTS concert without the members driving ARMYs crazy. We don’t know what RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook ate on that day, but they’re really feeling themselves. Spare our hearts, boys!

The majestic Black Swan intro

Black Swan is one of BTS’ most heartfelt songs, with the lyrics talking about the fear of hating your passion. We thought that nothing can top this God-tier track—until this hauntingly beautiful intro dance performance took our breaths away.

Was that a Blood Sweat and Tears and Fake Love remix?

Blood Sweat and Tears and Fake Love are arguably two of BTS’ sexiest bops among fans. Watching these two songs combined into a jaw-dropping remix was the definition of heaven. This shocking remix is something we never knew that we needed.

Whoever put the concert setlist together did a great job

Based on the concert’s title, we expected BTS feel-good pandemic bop Permission to Dance will be included. However, we didn’t expect that the concert will be a mixture of all-out fangirling and emotional nostalgia.

Not all K-pop concerts feature performances of a group’s early discography, so seeing BTS perform several of their earlier tracks was emotional to watch.

BTS’ heartfelt ending speeches

It’s depressing that we couldn't see BTS live at the moment, but seeing the seven members reminisce about pre-pandemic concerts made us even sadder. Jimin admitting that it’s “more difficult” to do ending speeches at an empty stadium made us shed a tear or two.

Thank you for this unforgettable concert, BTS! It was a night to remember.
