Harry Potter star Robbie Coltrane has passed away. He was 72.

In a statement provided to Deadline, the actor's agent Belinda Wright confirmed his death on Saturday, Oct. 15 (Philippine time). "My client and friend Robbie Coltrane OBE passed away on Friday, Oct. 14."

The Scottish talent played the role of Hogwarts gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter franchise.

According to BBC News, Wright highlighted that his Hagrid character “brought joy to children and adults alike all over the world.”

“For me, personally, I shall remember him as an abidingly loyal client. As well as being a wonderful actor, he was forensically intelligent, brilliantly witty, and after 40 years of being proud to be called his agent, I shall miss him,” she said.

“He is survived by his sister Annie Rae, his children Spencer and Alice, and their mother Rhona Gemmell. They would like to thank the medical staff at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert for their care and diplomacy,” added Wright.

“Please respect Robbie’s family’s privacy at this distressing time,” she continued.

Aside from the well-received Harry Potter series, he also appeared on Cracker as a forensic psychologist, “for which he won three consecutive BAFTA best actor prizes, an honor only equaled by one other actor,” Deadline noted. Coltrane also became part of other hit movies like Mona Lisa, James Bond films, and Ocean’s 12.
