New ‘Stargate’ real-time strategy game in development for PC
The popular military science fiction Stargate franchise is getting the video game treatment.
Stargate: Timekeeepers is a new real-time strategy game being developed by UK-based publisher Slitherine and Creative Forge Games in collaboration with Metro-Goldywn-Mayer (MGM) Studios.
MGM is the same film studio behind the pioneering 1994 film Stargate starring James Spader and Kurt Russell, which went on to spawn various television shows including the long-running Stargate SG-1, which originally ran from 1997 to 2007.
The video game is set between Stargate SG-1 Season 7 and Season 8. Rather than continue the previous main plot, the video game will diverge from there to tell a brand-new story set in the same universe.
Creative Forge, the studio behind Hard West and Phantom Doctrine, released a first teaser trailer for the upcoming Stargate video game on Tuesday (May 11).

While the teaser doesn't feature any clear gameplay details, it does show the iconic Stargate slowly locking coordinates into place before activating, which is arguably the most important aspect of the franchise. The original film and tv shows are all based on the idea of an alien Einstein-Rosen bridge device that enables nearly instantaneous travel across cosmic worlds.
“Working on an IP like Stargate is an honor and a testament to our continued effort to reach a wider audience,” Slitherine Marketing Director Marco Minoli said. “We strive to capture players’ imagination by creating our own worlds or by forging experiences based on existing, influential franchises. We look forward to bringing Stargate: Timekeepers to life and creating a long-lasting legacy of Stargate strategy games.”
The upcoming game is reportedly the first licensed PC game for the franchise since the online third-person shooter Stargate: Resistance went offline a decade ago in 2011. Stargate has also had two mobile games in the past, with Arkalis Interactive publishing Stargate Command in 2012 and Stargate SG-1: Unleashed in 2013.
Timekeepers will give players a chance to engage in combat with the Goa’uld System Lord, rescue allies from danger, and travel through both space and time—exploring different points in the Stargate timeline.
According to the game’s official description:
“Stargate: Timekeepers departs from the end of season 7 of the Stargate SG-1 main plot to create a wholly original story starting during the Battle of Antarctica, where [Commander] Eva McCain and her team are tasked with supporting the SG-1 against Anubis’s fleet. The aftermath of the battle sees Commander McCain and her squad face an epic adventure that spans multiple original locations.”

No release date has been set, but the game will release on PC distribution platforms like Steam.
