'Jurassic World: Dominion' launch date delayed to 2022

The release date of Universal Pictures’ tentpole Jurassic World: Dominion has been pushed back for almost a year.

In a Twitter post, the studio confirmed that the latest installment in the franchise will now premiere on June 10, 2022. Dominion was previously slated to hit the big screen on June 11, 2021. Following the announcement, director Colin Trevorrow also shared on Twitter a new poster of the film, which features the iconic dinosaur logo - a callback to Steven Spielberg’s 1993 sci-fi film Jurassic Park.

“For the past three months, I’ve worked with an extraordinary cast and crew on a film we can’t wait to share with the world. Even though we'll have to wait a bit longer, it will all be worth it. Let’s stay healthy and take care of each other until then,” Trevorrow wrote.

Although Universal Pictures did not provide any explanation behind the delay, Deadline reported that it has nothing to do with production problem as the studio is merely "safeguarding a big tentpole which has a number of lucrative ancillary attachments." It was previously reported that some crew members tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019.

The cast of Jurassic World: Dominion includes Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Justice Smith, Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum.
