‘Where is Sarah Geronimo?’ Fans ask after singer’s absence on ‘ASAP’ anniversary

Sarah Geronimo is not exactly missing—we pretty much know she’s spending time in marital bliss with husband Matteo Guidicelli, thanks to the social media posts of the TV host-actor. But fans have been looking for her in recent weeks, especially as she remains absent on the ABS-CBN Sunday variety show “ASAP Natin To,” where she is supposedly a mainstay.

The singer-actress was noticeably, curiously absent on the Feb. 7 episode of “ASAP Natin To.” The show celebrated its 26th anniversary on Sunday, so fans expected Sarah to make an appearance.

“ASAP Natin ‘To” co-host Regine Velasquez mentioned Sarah a few times during the program. She even went far as jokingly explaining why Sarah is absent from the show.

“At syempre, Sarah G., we miss you na,” Regine said during the show’s opening spiels.

She mentioned Regine again while interviewing co-host Janine Gutierrez, who performed on “ASAP Natin ‘To” as a mainstay for the first time during the said episode. Janine said it is an honor to perform on the same stage where Regine and Sarah regularly perform in.

To this, Regine replied: “Alam mo, parating na si Popster. Si ano, si Sarah. Parating na… Basta. Abangan natin.”

She added, “Hindi. Nagpapahinga lang ngayon ang ate mo, kasi alam mo na, kakakasal lang. Ganun talaga ‘yon. Honeymoon. Ako rin noon, hindi ako noon nagtatrabaho, e, ganun talaga ‘yon. Eventually, magsasawa na kayo, magtatrabaho ka na ulit.”

Sarah and Matteo tied the knot in February of last year.

The singer did greet the program as it celebrated its 26th anniversary with a simple tweet.

“WELOVEYOU SARAH G” also trended on Twitter Philippines yesterday, following Sarah’s absence on “ASAP Natin To," with fans hoping that the singer would return to the program soon.

Sarah’s absence from “ASAP Natin ‘To'' has been making the showbiz headlines the past couple of weeks. Her last performance on the show’s stage was on Nov. 1, 2020, although she has appeared on “ASAP” via remotely recorded performances.

She was also notably absent during the Jan. 24 episode of the show—a momentous moment for “ASAP” as it marked their first simulcast airing on TV5.

Days before the 26th anniversary episode of “ASAP,” fans noted that the show’s social media page posted different versions of an art card promoting the show—one with Sarah, and then one without.

Succeeding promotional materials also did not feature Sarah.

So, indeed, why has Sarah been absent from “ASAP Natin ‘To”?

Sarah has yet to address this question. Yet, Regine, during a press conference last month, said that Sarah probably has a good reason for missing this show.

“I’m sure may maganda naman siyang reason for not doing ‘ASAP.’ But a lot of people are missing her. Ang kaniyang mga Popsters miss her very, very much,” Regine said. “Sigurado naman akong miss din niya kami. I’m sure nami-miss din niyang mag-perform. I’m sure nami-miss din niya ang kaniyan Popsters. Let’s all pray that she’ll be able to do ‘ASAP’ again.”
