A thrilling dark new fantasy world is making its way to our television screens soon.
Netflix has released the awesome first trailer for Shadow and Bone, their upcoming series adaptation of the worldwide bestselling fantasy novels by Leigh Bardugo.
On Friday (Feb. 27), the streaming service released a dramatic new teaser trailer for the upcoming show, which is set to premiere on April 23rd.
The live-action series adaptation takes place in the Grishaverse, said to be inspired heavily by Imperial Russia, where people have the ability to manipulate the elements.
The clip introduces viewers to main protagonist Alina Starkov, played by newcomer Jessie Mei Li. The teenage orphan girl and mapmaker from the land of Ravka as she sets off on a dangerous journey to cross the Shadow Fold, the darkness that is at the center of both the story’s plot and the fictional kingdom of Ravka.
Alina discovers she wields rare supernatural abilities when her friend Malyen is attacked by one of the monsters that live in the darkness.
The series also features Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia's Prince Caspian), who plays General Kirigan, described as the Leader of the Grisha and Shadow Summoner.
Other cast members include Freddy Carter as Kaz Brekker, Amita Suman as Inej Ghafa, Kit Young as Jesper Fahey and Archie Renaux as Mal Oretsev.
Eric Heisserer, best known for his work on Arrival and Bird Box, created, penned and produced the adaptation.
The eight-episode Netflix series will adapt Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone trilogy, as well as the spin-off Six of Crows duology.
