Toni Gonzaga will play the title role in the Philippine remake of the popular 2001 South Korean romantic-comedy movie My Sassy Girl.
This was announced by movie company TinCan Films on social media on Wednesday, Jan. 21.
“In celebration of its 20th Anniversary, this year we will relive the classic Korean RomCom with its Philippine adaptation,” it said. “On her birthday, we are proud to announce Toni Gonzaga is Philippines’ My Sassy Girl.”
The social media announcement shows movies stills of Toni, who just celebrated her 37th birthday last Jan. 20.

The movie’s release date has yet to be announced and TinCan Films did not reveal who will play opposite Toni in the movie.
The original My Sassy Girl, which starred Jun Ji-hyun and Cha Tae-hyun, was a blockbuster both in South Korea and its neighboring countries such as China and Japan. It was also popular in the Philippines, getting a dubbed theatrical release.
My Sassy Girl isn’t the only remake of a South Korean film we’re getting. Last month, it was announced that Bea Alonzo and Alden Richards will star in the local remake of the 2004 South Korean movie A Moment To Remember.
