Erik Matti directs an episode in HBO Asia’s ‘Folklore’ horror anthology series
Renowned Filipino director Erik Matti is one of the six directors helming episodes in the second season of HBO’s Asian horror anthology series, Folklore.
HBO Asia announced that their original series Folklore is coming back for a second season this Nov. 14, featuring six episodes by acclaimed Asian directors, including On the Job’s Matti.
Much like the first season, Folklore season two features six episodes that explore supernatural phenomena rooted in folk tales and beliefs of each country from all over Asia.
Each episode is set in a specific territory in Asia, namely Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Singapore and is directed by a local director from that territory.
The Philippine episode of Folklore directed by Matti is titled "7 Days Of Hell." The episode, which stars Dolly de Leon and Roshson Barman, focuses on the dark power of the albularyo (traditional witch doctors or faith healers).
Here’s the episode’s official synopsis:
“A righteous policewoman and mother races against time to save her son when he falls dangerously ill from an unknown cause. When her son is given only a few weeks to live, she discovers that his illness is of supernatural origin and that a powerful sorcerer has cursed him. The only way for her son to survive is for him to apologize and make amends to the sorcerer. As the clock ticks, she is sent on a desperate quest to save her son.”
The directors for other episodes in the horror anthology series include Shih Han Liao from Taiwan, Seiko Matsuda from Japan, Sittisiri Mongkolsiri from Thailand, Billy Christian from Indonesia, and Nicole Midori Woodford from Singapore. Acclaimed filmmaker Eric Khoo returns as showrunner.
