The Last of Us Part II adds permadeath, cheats in new update
Naughty Dog is introducing a major update on The Last of Us Part 2 which will bring various new features and gameplay options including the return of the Grounded difficulty and the wicked Permadeath mode.
One of the highly-requested updates that are coming to the post-apocalyptic game is the infamous Grounded difficulty option, which not only makes the enemies more lethal and supplies more scarce but also removes the game’s HUD and the ability to stalk your enemies through the walls.
The game is also getting the Permadeath mode under the Grounded option to make the game more interesting. Enabling this option will give you one life in the entire game. If you happen to get bit by one of the Clickers or cornered by the Seraphites which basically means your eventual death, then that’s it. You’ll have to start over again because there’s no second chances. But if that’s too much for you, the Permadeath option can be enabled by checkpoints or chapters. Good luck doing that on Ellie’s Seattle Day 1.
If you are trophy hunting and survived the daunting task of finishing the game with the new set of difficulty options, Naughty Dog will reward you with two new trophies which, they clarified, will not be required to achieve the Platinum status.
Of course, if there are difficulty options, the update is also introducing an array of gameplay modifiers or ‘cheats’ to bring a new twist in the game such as the ability to kill enemies quicker with the One Shot or Touch of Death, infinite ammo, infinite crafting materials, infinite listening mode, infinite melee durability, slow motion and many more.
The gameplay modifiers will only be accessible via the Extras menu once you’ve finished the game. The free update will be available on August 13.
