MRT Infinity train? DOTR post goes viral for referencing 'Demon Slayer' anime

The Department of Transportation's latest post promoting free Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) rides has piqued the interest of anime fans and curious MRT riders alike.

In their April 6 post, the department shared a photo with the anime series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba as reference to the promo.

"MABILIS, LIGTAS, KOMPORTABLE, at higit sa lahat walang 'demons' sa mga tren dahil sa matagumpay na nakumpleto ang rehabilitasyon ng MRT-3," DOTR's caption reads. "Patuloy pa din ang pag-arangkada ng LIBRENG SAKAY dito hanggang April 30!"

The photo sees the show's three main characters and demon slayers Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inozuke being left behind by the MRT ridden by Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku. It's an ode to the anime's second season, wherein the protagonists must defeat a demon that has taken the shape of a train to kill human passengers.

A similar scene occurred in the first episode of the second season, when the heroes were almost left behind by the train.

A number of netizens have since been tickled by the post.

"I commend the Anime reference but we do know that the Mugen train arc doesn’t end well right?" one user commented. "Lol Anyway, congratulations on the project."

"Maraming demon dyan kapag rush hour," another quipped.

Another listed down the show's heroes along with the people that made the project possible: "Thank you, Pres. Duterte, Sec. Tugade, DOTR Team, Donut Hashira, Kamaboko Gonpachiro, Wild Boar, and Lightning Sleeping Kid."

Meanwhile, free MRT-3 rides began from March 28 until April 30 as a way to celebrate the rehabilitation of the train line under the Duterte administration.

Under Alert Level 1, the MRT-3 operates at 100% passenger capacity.
