Warner Bros. Pictures dropped a new poster for The Matrix Resurrections which is set to air in the US this Christmas, but will hit Philippine cinemas in January 2022.

“Step back into the Matrix with this new poster for The Matrix Resurrections,” read the photo caption of the official Warner Bros. Pictures Twitter account.

“Watch it in theaters and on HBO Max* this Christmas. #TheMatrix,” with the tagline "Return to the Source" and Christmas at the bottom of the poster.

The Matrix Resurrections is officially set for release in theaters and on HBO Max in the US on Dec. 22, 2021. The movie will only be available on the Ad-Free plan on HBO Max, and will stream in the US only for 31 days from its theatrical release.

However, when sharing the poster Thursday (Nov. 18), Warner Bros. Pictures Philippines said that the film will be released in local cinemas on January 2022. The version of the poster they shared notably says "Only in Cinemas" with no mention of a Christmas release.

As of this writing, no promotional materials for The Matrix 4 have appeared for the December line-up of HBO GO, the Asian streaming service counterpart of HBO Max.

The Matrix: Resurrections is the fourth film in the iconic sci-fi franchise which comes 18 years after the release of the sequels The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, and 22 years after its launch with The Matrix.

The film set 20 years after the events of Revolutions finds Neo (Keanu Reeves) living a seemingly ordinary life as Thomas A. Anderson in San Francisco, where his therapist prescribes him blue pills. Neither he nor Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) recognize each other.

However, Morpheus (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, taking over the character originated by Laurence Fishburne) offers him the red pill and reopens his mind to the world of the Matrix.

Produced, co-written, and directed by Lana Wachowski, the new film will see Jada Pinkett Smith reprising her role as Niobe from Revolutions and Reloaded, with Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist), Jonathan Groff (Glee), Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother), Priyanka Chopra Jonas (TV’s Quantico), Christina Ricci (Sleepy Hollow), and more among the new additions to the cast.
