'True Blood' reboot in the works at HBO

The film and television industry is no stranger to reboots and remakes, banking on nostalgia to draw audiences back in. This is particularly true for intellectual properties that have been proven successful in the past.

According to Variety.com, yet another television show is set to be revived from the dead. True Blood, the vampire drama series which ran for seven seasons on HBO from 2008 to 2014, will be getting the reboot treatment. Their sources claim that the new show is already in the early stages of development at the cable and streaming giant.

HBO has declined to comment.

The report alleges that script and executive producing duties will be handled by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Riverdale, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and Jami O’Brien (Fear the Walking Dead, NOS4A2). It continues that original series creator and showrunner Alan Ball will also executive produce.

Based on a series of novels by Charlaine Harris, True Blood was about a world where vampires and humans lived together after the creation of a synthetic blood substitute, which stopped the nightime creatures from sucking out the blood from mere mortals. Other supernatural beings were introduced in the series such as fairies and werewolves.

Anna Paquin lead the show as Sookie Stackhouse, a waitress with telepathic powers. True Blood also starred Stephen Moyer, Alexander Skarsgård, Rutina Wesley, Deborah Ann Woll, Sam Trammell, Ryan Kwanten, Joe Manganiello, and the late Nelsan Ellis.

There is no word on whether the reboot will have a new cast of actors, or if any of the old cast would be returning.
