'Harry Potter' live-action TV series in early development at HBO Max - report
Listen up, muggles.
A Harry Potter live-action TV series is reportedly in early development at HBO Max.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources claimed that HBO Max executives have held exploratory meetings with potential writers to discuss various ideas for the upcoming project.
However, the publication noted that since the TV series is in its “extremely early stages” of development, there are currently no writers, talents or director attached to it. No deals have been made either, according to the report.
After headlines of a Potterverse-themed TV series circulated on the Internet Tuesday morning, HBO Max and Warner Bros. released a joint statement, denying that a live-action TV series based on the franchise is in the works.
“There are no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform,” HBO Max and Warner Bros. told The Hollywood Reporter.
Currently, Warner Bros. have released two films which expanded the Wizarding World of Harry Potter: 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and 2018’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. A third film installment under the prequel series is slated to premiere on July 14, 2022.
As streaming platforms continue to beef up its slate of shows in a bid to entice more customers in the age of video-on-demand services, it’s only a matter of time before a Harry Potter TV series make its debut in the small screen. Last year, Disney announced that a number of Star Wars and Marvel series are coming to its streaming service in the next couple of years.
