‘Ghost of Tsushima: Legends’ gets a standalone version in September
Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, the multiplayer expansion to Sucker Punch's samurai-adventure game, is getting a standalone release next month.
In a recent PlayStation Blog, Sucker Punch Productions senior game designer Darren Bridges announced that they will be releasing the standalone version of Legends on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on Sept. 3. This standalone game is priced at $19.99 and will come out two weeks after the scheduled release of Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut.
Bridges explained that the standalone version of Ghost of Tsushima's multiplayer expansion will be exactly the same as the Legends in the original game but with the exemption of some cosmetics that can only be unlocked during the single-player campaign. Legends owners, meanwhile, can also upgrade their copy to the Director's Cut version for $40.
In addition to this, the studio is also releasing a brand-new mode to Legends called Rivals. In the new mode, two teams of two will have to compete to defeat a horde of enemies. By defeating each foe, players can earn Magatama, which they can use "to harm the other team."
Also launching alongside Rivals on Sept. 3 is the Gear Mastery System, which will expand the progression systems and rewards for Legends. In the new system, players who have earned 110-level gear will now be able to bind it to a class and activate Mastery Challenges, which will allow a piece of gear's Ki level to be upgraded to 120 alongside a second perk slot. As players activate Mastery Challenges, they can also unlock a new ability and techniques for each class.
Aside from this, the studio will also release a free update that will add new features to Legends, including some changes based on players' feedback.
"We’ve rebalanced the Survival mode to shorten the session length and added new weekly Survival Nightmare challenge variants. We’ve also unlocked additional cosmetics in Legends for players who’ve earned them in Jin’s story and New Game+," Bridges said.
In addition to Rivals and the new Gear Mastery System, Sucker Punch said that they will also be adding a new piece of content every week from Sept. 10 to Oct. 1, such as an additional Rivals map, two new Survival maps, and a new harder-difficulty version of last year Trials of Iyo, that "offers challenges in bite-sized chunks, and offers a new set of online leaderboards."
The Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut will launch on August 20 for $69.99 for PS5 and $59.99 for PS4. For those who already own the game on PS4, they can pre-order an upgrade to Director's Cut on PS4 for $19.99. Meanwhile, PS4 players who own the Director's Cut can also upgrade to PS5's version for $9.99. Alternatively, players who already own the PS4 version can directly upgrade to the Director's Cut on PS5 for $29.99.
