Apple's 'Time Flies' event highlights: Apple Watch Series 6, iPad Air and more
Although there’s no announcement of a new iPhone during its Time Flies September event earlier today, Apple still unveiled a new batch of offerings including the Apple Watch Series 6, iPad Air and more.
Apple Watch Series 6
Apple introduced the premium model in its wearables line-up, the Apple Watch Series 6. The main selling point of Apple’s new smartwatch is a nifty sensor that can read blood oxygen levels in 15 seconds. It also has a new dual-core processor based on iPhone 11’s A13 Bionic.
With an upgraded S6 SiP, the Watch Series 6 allows apps to launch 20 percent faster while maintaining the all-day 18-hour batter life. Aside from that, the premium smartwatch also has an enhanced Always-On Retina display which is said to be 2.5 times brighter than its predecessor. The price of the Apple Watch Series 6 starts at $399.
Apple Watch SE
Apple also unveiled a more affordable iteration of its smartwatch. The Apple Watch SE has an S5 System in Package and dual-core processor, allowing the device to deliver performance of up to two times faster than Apple Watch Series 3. It also has the next-generation always-on altimeter, fall detection and uses the latest-generation microphone to measure ambient sound levels in a user’s environment. The Apple Watch SE is priced at $279.
8th Generation iPad
Apple has also showed off the A12 Bionic chip-powered eight-generation iPad. The new chip is said to deliver 40 percent faster CPU performance, making it “two times faster than the top-selling Windows laptop, up to three times faster than the top-selling Android tablet, and up to six times faster than the top-selling Chromebook.” The 8th Generation iPad has a price tag of $329.
iPad Air
The new iPad Air, meanwhile, has a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display and will be offered in five different colors including deep navy, cyprus green, and pink citrus. It houses an A14 Bionic chip, making it easier to edit 4K videos, play immersive games and more. In terms of the camera department, the new iPad Air includes a 7MP front-facing camera and a 12MP rear camera used in iPad Pro for higher resolution and 4K video capture. A new Touch ID sensor has been integrated into the top button.
Apart from that, the new iPad Air also features a USB-C port, allowing data transfer of up to 5GBps and stereo speakers which provide an elevated audio experience. Apple’s iPad Air will hit store shelves in October. The 64GB model is priced at $599 while the Wi-Fi and cellular models will cost $729.
Apple One
Apple One allows customers to get all of the company’s subscription services such as Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, Apple News+, Apple Fitness+, and iCloud. The bundle, which can be accessed from various Apple devices, will have three subscription options: $14.95 for the Individual, $19.95 for Family, and $29.95 for Premier.
