DC and anime crossover: Warner Bros. drops teaser for 'Suicide Squad Isekai' anime
Fans of DC and anime are in for a treat as Warner Bros. Japan has unveiled the teaser trailer for Suicide Squad Isekai, a new original anime series that revolves around the anti-hero team of the same name.
As the title suggests, the series will take the iconic supervillain characters and reimagine them in the style of anime while following the format of an "isekai" story.
In case you're unfamiliar with it, isekai is a type of genre that has become popular as of late, wherein the protagonist is suddenly transported into an unfamiliar world that is filled with fantastical creatures and where its citizens usually wield magic or other impressive powers. Some notable examples of this would be Sword Art Online, The Rising of the Shield Hero, and more.
The theme is evident in the new Suicide Squad anime, which sees Harley Quinn and Joker causing chaos in the city of Gotham before the trailer suddenly cuts away into a world where dragons, orcs, and mutant pig creatures exist.
While details are still scarce, Warner Bros. described the story as "an epic and violent fantasy with the strongest line-up of anime creators" and where "the most maddening worlds collide."
This unique blend of DC Comics and isekai anime will be produced by WIT Studio, which is the company behind notable anime shows such as such as Attack on Titan and Spy×Family, and will be directed Eri Osada, who is known for helming episodes in Jujutsu Kaisen and Gintama.
Suicide Squad Isekai is yet to receive a release date.
