It’s International Kissing Day! Here are K-drama kissing scenes that make us blush

What’s in a K-drama kiss that makes viewers squeal with kilig?

For starters, kissing scenes in K-dramas are more innocent than their Western counterparts. The majority of them involve actors gently pressing their lips on one another—known as “dead fish” kiss among fans. Which is frustrating, if we do say so ourselves. 

However, what makes K-drama kisses stand out is the build-up. You’ve probably reached the point of wanting to scream through your screen when characters couldn’t admit their love. But as their lips touch, you’ll forget the angst and frustration you felt in previous episodes.

It’s a good thing some actors are now willing to go all the way with their kisses. Gone are the days where viewers got annoyed; they are now screaming with delight. As we celebrate International Kissing Day, here’s a look at K-drama kissing scenes that made our cheeks red. Spoiler alert: these smooches are not gentle at all.

Kim Soohyun and Jun Jihyun (My Love from the Star)

Do Minjoon (Kim Soohyun) and Cheon Songyi’s (Jun Jihyun) love story has been a roller coaster ride for fans, and this dramatic kiss is a climax to this K-drama. Minjoon is an alien who disappears to his home planet after his days on Earth run out which leaves Songyi in despair.

What made us scream is Minjoon making a sudden appearance in a press conference to surprise Songyi. He playfully quips about his lover wearing a revealing gown before dipping her in a passionate kiss. It was a shock to the characters and audiences that we still can’t get over until this day. For an alien, Minjoon can kiss really well. 

Joo Jihoon and Yoon Eunhye (Goong)

The torrid kiss between Shin Chaekyung (Yoon Eunhye) and Lee Shin (Joo Jihoon) is well-earned after five episodes of angst. Everyone—except Chaekyung and Shin—know how intense their feelings are for each other and this scene confirms it. 

We didn’t expect Eunhye and Jihoon to have a kissing scene this intense since it’s their first K-drama. And they have blown us away.

Eric Moon and Seo Hyunjin (Another Oh Haeyoung)

We don’t know if this is just a kiss or makeout scene, but we can’t deny the chemistry between Eric and Hyunjin. Their acting is so good that they’ve nail this scene in one take.

Dokyung (Eric Moon) and Haeyoung (Seo Hyunjin) are going through a rough patch as they struggle to express their feelings. The angst soon escalates into a fight which finally ends in a torrid kiss. What made us scream at the end of the scene is Dokyung suddenly walking out. WHY?

Go Kyungpyo and Ryu Hyeyoung (Reply 1988)

Sorry, Park Bogum and Hyeri. But Go Kyungpyo and Ryu Hyeyoung are the best kissers in this iconic K-drama. 

Sung Sunwoo’s (Go Kyungpyo) dream finally comes true when Sung Bora (Ryu Hyeyoung) reciprocates his feelings. It’s hard to choose our favorite kissing scene from this couple since they’re all romantic and sensual. You can feel the sincerity of their feelings for one another in every moment.

Park Seojoon and Park Minyoung (What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim?)

This K-drama is filled with a lot of intense kissing that you need a glass of water while watching. Park Seojoon and Park Minyoung are known as “chemistry fairies” among fans, so seeing them together in a romcom is a delight.

It’s impossible to have one favorite kissing scene in this K-drama since they can really give you the feels. However, this “lap kiss” is our top pick since it’s a cute way of Lee Sunghyun (Park Seojoon) and Kim Miso (Park Minyoung) making up after a fight. Watching Miso sitting on Sunghyun’s lap is enough for us to squeal with joy already.

Lee Jongsuk and Han Hyojoo (W)

W tells the story of two worlds: the real world and an alternate universe in a webtoon. Kang Chul (Lee Jongsuk) is the main character of the webtoon, while Oh Yeonjoo (Han Hyojoo) is the daughter of the webtoon’s illustrator.

The famous “jailhouse kiss” feels like a crash course on how to combine kilig and sexiness in one scene. As Chul passionately kisses Yeonjoo after a “petty fight,” we can’t help but giggle at the surprised detective who bolts out of the room in shock. 

Han Sohee and Song Kang (Nevertheless)

This K-drama has been trending since its first episode and we can’t blame people for tuning in religiously. 

For one thing, Sohee and Kang’s chemistry is too much for us to handle. Their fiery kiss in the third episode is so steamy, we find it hard to believe that we’re only in the first half of the K-drama. Spoiler alert: this kissing scene is not suitable to watch with other people. It’s better to squeal over this couple in the comfort of your own room.
