Jennifer Coolidge joins Jason Momoa, Jack Black in 'Minecraft' live-action movie
Excited to see Jennifer Coolidge in the world of Minecraft?
The international star, who won Best Supporting Actress at the recently concluded Emmy Awards for her role in The White Lotus, is set to showcase her talent in a Minecraft live-action movie, according to a report by Deadline.
Also joining the cast are Aquaman star Jason Momoa, Emma Myers of the Wednesday series, The Color Purple star Danielle Brooks, and comedy actor Jack Black.
Jared Hess, who helmed the comedy film Napoleon Dynamite, will serve as the director of the upcoming project. It's set to be produced under production houses Warner Bros. and Legendary.
Further details, including the plot, writer, and other cast members, are yet to be announced. Variety reported that the production will begin soon in New Zealand. It is slated to premiere on April 4, 2025.
Owned by tech giant Microsoft, Minecraft is one of the most popular video games launched in 2011. It lets you build structures using colorful blocks and even create and/or join communities in the virtual world. It currently has four different franchises, including “Minecraft: Story Mode,” “Minecraft Earth,” “Minecraft Dungeons,” and “Minecraft Legends.”
In October 2023, the video game's makers confirmed it has sold over 300 million copies since its launch.
Coolidge is known for her roles in Legally Blonde, The Watcher, Single All The Way, and The White Lotus, which earned her recognitions from Golden Globes, MTV Movie and TV Awards, Critics' Choice Television Awards, and the recent Primetime Emmy Awards.
