‘Star Wars: Vision’ first look, release date drop

Lucasfilm has unveiled the first look of the upcoming anime anthology series Star Wars: Vision during a panel at the Anime Expo Lite on Sunday.

Slated for a Sept. 22 release, the series will not follow the Star Wars timeline to allow creators to tell their stories freely. 

“We really wanted to give these creators a wide creative berth to explore all the imaginative potential of the Star Wars galaxy through the unique lens of anime,” said executive producer James Waugh. 

“We realized we wanted these to be as authentic as possible to the studios and creators who are making them, made through their unique process, in a medium they’re such experts at,” he added.

In the three-minute video, the directors shared what the stories are about in varied styles, like rock opera, and different genres including romantic tragedy and comedic shorts.

Star Wars: Vision will include nine unique shorts by seven studios namely: The Duel by Kamikaze Douga; Lop and Ochō by Geno Studio; Tatooine Rhapsody by Studio Colorido; The Twins and The Elder, both by Trigger; The Village Bride by Kinema Citrus; Akakiri and T0-B1, both by Science Saru; The Ninth Jedi by Production IG.

Alongside Lucasfilm’s Waugh, the show was executive produced by Jacqui Lopez, Josh Rimes, and Qubic Pictures’ Justin Leach. Kanako Shirasaki produced the show, to be streamed on Disney Plus.
