For SB19, the rise of P-pop industry can boost PH economy 'very, very soon'

SB19 may have achieved major breakthroughs in the local music scene, but they believe the P-pop industry has a lot to offer.

Since their debut in 2018, SB19 has paved the way for P-pop groups to push their talents in the music scene. The boy group—hard-hitting discography and achievements aside—believes the first-ever Pinoy Pop Convention (PPOPCON) will make “P-pop rise” happen.

“We’re actually very proud because they have joined us with this battle na i-prove sa buong mundo na kaya ng mga Pilipino na makipagsabayan sa mga international [music acts] and siyempre, maipalaganap ang culture natin,” SB19’s Josh said in the PPOPCON press conference.

Josh said the rise of P-pop can boost the local economy as well, adding that SB19 is “thankful” to their fellow P-pop artists who are making a mark in the industry.

“Soon, makakaya din natin na ipakita sa lahat na tama tayo. Kaya natin talaga na matulungan ang economy ng Philippines at feeling ko, mangyayari ito very, very soon,” Josh said.

SB19’s Pablo, meanwhile, believes that P-pop is on its way to being recognized in the local and international music scene, as long as there’s “strength in numbers” between the groups and their fans.

“We’re very, very happy kasi noong nagsisimula pa lang kami, wala talaga kaming friends. Now, we have everyone here and I believe there’s strength in numbers. I believe that someday, magkakaroon talaga ng P-pop as a genre na makikilala all over the world,” Pablo said.

SB19’s leader also revealed that P-pop groups “share one heart” in helping the P-pop industry to be recognized around the globe.

So, what can SB19’s dedicated legion of fans, called "A’TIN," expect from the five-member group at the PPOPCON?

They didn’t say much, except SB19’s Stell hinted that it will be the “first time” for the boy group to perform their songs in their first EP Pagsibol “live.”

“Excited na kami, at sana makasama namin kayo sa araw na iyon. Gawin nating makasaysayan [ang PPOPCON] para sa ating lahat,” Stell added.

The upcoming PPOPCON is a two-day event that celebrates the growing P-pop music scene. It will kick off at the New Frontier Theater on April 9, and the long-awaited concert will happen at the Araneta Coliseum on April 10.

Among the participating acts are SB19, BGYO, BINI, MNL48, 4TH IMPACT, Alamat, 1ST.ONE, Press Hit Play, VXON, KAIA, PPOP GENERATION, Daydream, R Rules, G22, Calista, and Dione.

Fans can get their tickets at Ticketnet outlets nationwide or its official website.
