The CW cancels ‘Batwoman,’ ‘DC's Legends of Tomorrow’
Two of DC Comics’ TV series have been cancelled at The CW.
In a post on Twitter, co-showrunner and executive producer Keto Shimizu confirmed that one of The CW’s long-running superhero TV series, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, has been cancelled after seven seasons.
“Well, folks. It’s been an incredible run. However, the CW has let us know that there will be no Season 8 of #LegendsOfTomorrow,” Shimizu said. “We are heartbroken, but also immensely grateful for the amazing work our cast, crew and writers have contributed to the little show that could.”
He continued: “Thank you to our fans; your love and passion for our strange band of misfits has made every break, every script, every daily, every cut, and every mix worth all the hard work. We see you, we love you, and you’ll always have a place on the Waverider.”

Based on the characters of DC Comics, the Legends of Tomorrow is one of the series set in The CW’s Arrowverse, which also include Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl.
The series starred Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, Victor Garber and Franz Drameh as Martin Stein (Firestorm), Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer (Atom), Caity Lotz (White Canary), Ciara Renée (Hawkgirl), Falk Hentschel (Hawkman), Amy Pemberton (Gideon), Dominic Purcell (Heat Wave), and Wentworth Miller (Captain Cold).
Apart from Legends of Tomorrow, the TV adaptation of Batwoman has also been cancelled at The CW after three seasons.
Series showrunner Caroline Dries shared the news in a Twitter post, saying, “Just got the sad news that #Batwoman will not be seeing an S4. I am bummed, but full of gratitude. What an honor to make 51 episodes. So many inspiring, brilliant people contributed to this series. Thank you producers, cast and crew. Thank you, fans! We love you.”
Batwoman first aired at The CW in 2019, with actress Ruby Rose playing the lead role - Bruce Wayne’s cousin Kate Kane.
However, Rose departed the show after the series’ maiden season and later claimed her departure was due to unsafe conditions on set. Aside from that, she also accused co-star Dougray Scott of unprofessional behavior.
Actress Javicia Leslie later stepped in to take the lead role in season two, playing as former criminal Ryan Wilder following Kate Kane’s disappearance.
In an Instagram post, Leslie shared her thoughts on the show’s cancellation.
“I was taught that words have power and we speak our life into existence. Well, I spoke this role into my life, and what an honor it has been to watch it play out exactly how it was meant to,” she said. “Family, this Bat Team is ours…HERstory was made and it can never be taken.”
Batwoman’s cast members also include Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Nicole Kang, Camrus Johnson, Elizabeth Anweis, Victoria Cartagena, Robin Givens, and Nick Creegan.
Following the cancellation of Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman, DC’s remaining TV series on The CW are Stargirl and The Flash, which has been renewed for its ninth season. Meanwhile, a new spinoff, Gotham Knights, is currently in development at The CW.
