Vincent Kartheiser has been cast in the role of Jonathan Crane, a.k.a Scarecrow, in the upcoming third season of DC series Titans.

The series, based on the DC Comics team Teen Titans, focuses on a group of young heroes who join forces in their fight against evil.

In the series“Crane is an inmate at Arkham Asylum who used to terrorize Gotham City using toxins to exploit his enemies’ phobias.”

"The streets are never safe from the Prince of Panic...even if he is locked away in Arkham," the show's Twitter account posted on Thursday (April 29) sharing the casting news.

Kartheiser is best known for his role as Pete Campbell in the critically-acclaimed AMC series Mad Men. More recent TV credits include Casual and The Path at Hulu, the Nat Geo miniseries Saints & Sinners, the Sky TV series Das Boot, and The OA at Netflix.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans might also remember Kartheiser as Connor in the BtVS spin-off, Angel.

The villain Scarecrow has appeared a number of times onscreen, including Christopher Nolan’s Batman film trilogy, where he was portrayed by Cillian Murphy; and the Fox series Gotham, where he was played by David W. Thompson.

The upcoming season will also introduce Savannah Welch as former Batgirl Barbara Gordon, Jay Lycurgo as Tim Drake (who served with Batman as the third Robin), and Curran Walters as Red Hood.

Featured as members of the Titans are Dick Grayson/Robin (Brenton Thwaits), Kory Anders/Starfire (Anna Diop), Rachel Roth/Raven (Teagan Croft) and Gar Logan/Beast Boy (Ryan Potter).

The series also stars Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly as Hawk and Dove, Bruno Bichir as Dr. Niles Caulder, Lindsey Gort as Police Detective Amy Rohrbach, Joshua Orpin as Conner Kent/Superboy, Esai Morales as Deathstroke, Chella Man as Deathstroke’s son Jericho Wilson, Chelsea T. Zhang as Deathstroke’s daughter Rose Wilson (aka The Ravager), Iain Glen as Bruce Wayne, Natalie Gumede as Mercy Graves, and Drew Van Acker as Aqualad.

Titans was the first scripted series to launch on DC Universe, with the first season debuting in October 2018. The series was developed by Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, and Greg Berlanti, based on characters from DC.

While the series was renewed for a third season at DC Universe in November 2019, it was announced in September 2020 that DC Universe was moving out of the original scripted series. The remaining scripted originals are all shifting over to HBO Max along with other shows like Doom Patrol and Harley Quinn.

The first two seasons of Titans are currently streaming on HBO Max in the US and on Netflix in the Philippines.
