Nancy of MOMOLAND lauds BFF Charlie Dizon for Best Actress Award
Charlie Dizon is one lucky girl not only for winning the Best Actress Award in this year's Metro Manila Film Fest (MMFF) but also for having a supportive K-pop idol BFF in Nancy McDonie of MOMOLAND.
After Dizon bagged her first Best Actress Award at the MMFF Gabi ng Parangal last Sunday, Dec. 27, her famous—not to mention proud—bestie took to Instagram to laud her childhood best friend.
"I am so proud and impressed with your performance. You are amazing, Charlie,” she wrote in her Instagram Stories on Dec. 28. “You deserve Best Actress. Congratulations.”
Dizon, 24, and McDonie, 20, first met when the Fan Girl star trained to be a K-pop idol in Korea during her teenage years.
Fans have learned about their adorable friendship when Dizon started an Instagram Live earlier this year where McDonie made a surprise appearance. "I knew you since I was 11," McDonie remarked during their conversation.
Thanks to the MMFF going online this year, McDonie was able to show Dizon how much of a fangirl she is by watching her bestie’s film all the way from South Korea.
Dizon, for her part, couldn’t be any happier for receiving the award. In her Instagram post on Monday, the Star Magic talent shared how her challenging journey through the film’s production was all worthwhile.
“Noong ginagawa namin ‘Yung pelikula, maraming beses na nahihirapan ako at naisip mag-quit pero mas pinanghawakan ko ‘Yung ganda at kabuluhan ng materyal kaya ayokong sayangin ang pagkakataon. Alam ng lahat kung paano ako ka-proud sa pelikula naming ito kahit hindi pa naipapalabas,” she said.
Dizon went on to express her gratitude to Fan Girl director Antoinette Jadaone, who also won the Best Director Award at the film fest.
“Paulit-ulit kong sasabihin, thank you Direk Tonet for this beautiful film. Sana, Direk, makagawa ka pa ng mga ganitong klaseng pelikula. You are an inspiration to many lalo na sa tapang mo. Hindi ko makakalimutan, Direk, ‘yung moment natin sa labas ng airport. Sabi natin, sana manala tayo. At ito na nga, Direk.”
Dizon did not miss thanking her leading man, Paulo Avelinio, who was awarded Best Actor that night.
She wrote, “Thank you sa lahat ng tulong at guidance na binigay mo sa akin nung ginagawa natin ‘yung pelikula. Salamat sa pagiging patient sa mga oras na nahihirapan ako. It was such a pleasure working with you. I really became a real-life fan.”
